[Vancouver, British Columbia:] Heavenly Monkey, 2017. One of thirty-six copies printed by Rollin Milroy at Heavenly Monkey. Numbered and signed by the author in red ink on colophon. Black letters printed from polymer plates in addition to a hand-drawn red calligraphic letter on every leaf with a decorative pattern of black and red foliage. Printed damp on rectos only on three types of English paper, which are intermingled: Crown & Sceptre, J. Whatman, and T.H. Saunders. A fine copy in a fine dark blue and red clamshell case with a paper spine label. Bound by Claudia Cohen in full limp vellum tooled in gold at the edges, spine labeled in red calligraphic lettering. “The inspiration for [the present work] was a manuscript copy [that the author] created a few years ago: 26 rectos, starting with a majuscule A, each subsequent recto adding the next letter of the alphabet, all done in red ink on…handmade paper. This new printed version takes the same format and approach, but was completely redrawn by [Lohmann].

“…The book is entirely calligraphic – there is no type used. The reproductions of [the artist’s] calligraphy were printed in black…the next letter in the accumulation is added to each page by [Lohmann] in red ink; thus, every copy contains the full alphabet in original calligraphy across its pages” (Heavenly Monkey Press).
