The essays are excerpted from a number of well known London publications including: the Tatler, the Spectator, the Rambler, the Gentleman’s Magazine, the Female Engraved frontispiece and engraved title-page. First gathering closely trimmed at fore-margin, shaving a few letters. Contemporary ownership signature ("Lydia Bassett's Book. 1765," two other ownership markings in preliminaries. This collection first appeared in 1755. A second edition was published in 1759. This third edition was the last to be published in the eighteenth century.
