The author is George Drought Warburton (1816-1857, brother of the editor, who writes this based on his extensive North American travels. Warburton, who served as an army officer in Montreal, also traveled throughout Upper and Lower Canada, to the Hudson’s Bay area, to New England and the Mid-Atlantic states of North America, and to Oregon and Mexico. Volume I is devoted largely to Canada, and Volume II largely to the United States.
