First published in 1740, this is an imitation of Marivaux’s Vie de Marianne (1731-41), which was considered a great advancement in the novel form and influenced Rousseau, Restif de la Bretonne and Fielding. The author is Claude-François Lambert Two small cracks along front joint. A very good, clean copy. Contemporary mottled calf, gilt spine with burgundy morocco label. Edges stained red, marbled endpapers. Ten parts in one volume, [2], vi, 335 pp. (Item ID: 13184)


This edition is unknown to OCLC, which lists only the 1740 and 1772 editions. All editions are scarce; OCLC lists copies of the first edition at Harvard, Cal State Chico, and Oxford only.
