New York: Scribners, 1931. First edition of the first novel of Caroline Gordon (1895-1981), the wife of Allen Tate, influencer of Flannery O'Connor, and respected short story writer. It is a family history that takes place during the Civil War. Caroline Gordon worked as Ford Madox Spine faded, covers a bit faded at extremities, small dampstain on top edge, barely touching a few pages, spine a bit cocked. Still, a very good copy, unmarked copy in the scarce dust jacket. The jackete is faded and lightly browned, with a few chips and tears and edgewear, but is complete and not price-clipped. Blue cloth, stamped in gilt and blind. Octavo. (Item ID: 12818)
