Goldsmith, Oliver.

Leipzig: bey Weidmanns Erben und Reich, 1776. First (?) edition of this translation of The Vicar of Wakefield by Johann Joachim Christoph Bode (1730-1793). Bode was an admired translator who produced German editions of Tristram Shandy, Montaigne’s Essays, and Marmontel’s Incas. This is the Engraved frontispiece and title-page vignette by Chodowiecki. Occasional light foxing, but a very good copy overall. Later marbled wrappers, with some rubbing. Octavo. xiv, 463, [1] pp. (Item ID: 12772)

OCLC lists three copies, at Harvard, Stanford, and Göttingen.
