[Claremont, California]: Scripps College Press, 2004. One of ninety-three copies. Signed by the students and by Professor Kitty Maryatt. Includes a facsimile of a page from the Gutenberg Bible, printed by the students in Professor Kitty Maryatt’s class. Illustrated with linoleum cuts in red, green, and blue; two tipped-in illustrations and various other decorations (including marginal decorations inspired by calligraphic initials). The Gutenberg font used was made especially for the Scripps College Press. Text printed in black, red, and blue. A very good + copy, in near fine condition but lacking the original acrylic plastic slipcase. One of the most elusive of Scripps College Press titles. Cranberry silk over black decorative boards, gilt spine. The binding reflects the printing known as the black art. 6 in. x 15 in. Item #18044

“This is an artist’s book version of a leaf book. We decided to reproduce Denison Library’s Gutenberg leaf to more clearly understand the risks that Gutenberg took in his work of the books...This fragment became the touchstone for writing stories about risk,” (colophon). It also contains stories and poems printed by each student about risk-taking in the twenty-first century.
