Letters between two of the most important antiquarian booksellers in Los Angeles history. Ernest Dawson (1882-1947) was the founder of Dawson's Book Shop, which has been in business since 1905. It is the oldest continuously running bookstore in Los Angeles.
Jacob Israel Zeitlin (1902-1987) was an American bookseller, poet, and intellectual central to the Los Angeles literary and book-trade scenes of the mid-twentieth century. Rhe so-called “Zeitlin Circle” was an influential force in Los Angeles’s artistic and cultural formation. Zeitlin championed the works of his contemporaries, Paul Landacre and Edward Weston.
