“This is my first catalogue. In offering it I shall be happy if it receives as friendly a response as the very recent announcement of the opening of my shop. Three months of doing business is very little vantage point from which to boast. I shall only say that pleasure, and (I must admit it) surprise with which I regard this successful beginning is entirely eclipsed by the gratitude by which I feel to the many friends and patrons and fellow book dealers who have made it possible” (from the interior of the front cover).
Jacob Zeitlin (1902-1987) was an American bookseller, poet, and intellectual central to the Los Angeles literary and book-trade scenes of the mid-twentieth century. Indeed, the so-called “Zeitlin Circle” was an influential force in Los Angeles’s artistic and cultural formation. Zeitlin championed the works of his contemporaries, Paul Landacre and Edward Weston.
