OCLC does not note the present edition, though it lists several editions between its publication between its publication and 1735, so it was clearly a popular work. Bouhours (1628-1702) was a Jesuit professor of rhetoric and belles lettres. His major work is Les entretiens d’Ariste et d’Eugène, a critical work on the French language. He also wrote lives of Saint Ignatius Loyola and Saint Francis Xavier, the latter of which was translated into English by John Dryden.
