Contemporary ink signature and date on upper-title page. A very good copy of a scarce work. Modern brown morocco, gilt-ruled spine with bands in six compartments. “M.S. We were unable to find any information about Mrs. Somerville in the sources that are available to us. The title page describes her as a “Practical Teacher of the Art.” Cookery and Domestic Economy contains instructions for cutting, cleaning and deboning various types of meat, how to prepare and manage a fire, the general economy of the kitchen, a list of weights and measures, and numerous recipes for dishes such as mock turtle soup, oyster sausages, raspberry ice cream, beef tea for invalids, and many more.
OCLC records three copies two in the United States at Louisiana State University (their copy is incomplete) and Harvard.
