New York: B.F. Goodrich Co., [1902]. One of a small number of copies of this alphabet primer that doubles as an ad for Goodrich Tires. Each page is illustrated, some with multiple images, in black, white, and orange and printed on brown paper. Very minor edgewear, else a fine, crisp copy of a scarce piece of advertising. In the present work, there is an illustration for each letter accompanied by rhyming verse. One such example is: “F is for First / like the boy in the race /Just like Palmer Tires which hold the first place.” The alphabet and verses are followed by a list of tires sold by Goodrich (examples include “The Regular Roadster,” which is “The Universal Tire for Pleasure, Business, General Riding, Road Uses, and Road Racing. Light, Strong, Durable and Resilient” and “Mexican,” which is “Extra Heavy Thread (Two Ply). Heavier Air Tube. Covered Specially to Withstand Hard Usage and Rough Riding…A Good Tourist’s Tire.” There are also shorter additional advertisements for other products: the Jiffy Repair Tool, The Jiffy Solution (meant to fill the tool), and a Counter Sink Cutter.
