[Aurora-on-Cayuga: Hammer Press, 1946]. With a two-color historiated initial, cut from brass by Victor Hammer, printed in blue, with a figure in medieval dress examining a proofsheet. A near fine copy. Terra cotta-backed decorative boards with terra cotta endpapers. Morocco label stamped in silver on spine. Pages uncut. Binding by Clifford R. Wurfle, former head of Special Collections at UC Riverside, with his signature dated 1971 on the verso of front free endpaper and with his bookplate on front end pastedown. Quarto. [24] pp. Item #16127

One of three hundred and fifty copies published as a keepsake for the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago. It contains some of Hammer's thoughts regarding the American Uncial, the typeface he created. The dialogue is between a printer (Hammer) and a paleographer (E.A. Lowe). This was the first public use of the uncial type.
