The first Hogarth edition appeared in 1726, and there were a number of other editions with these plates published throughout the eighteenth century. This edition features clear, sharp impressions of the plate, unlike some of the later editions. Engraved frontisportrait and nine engraved plates, four folding. Decorative woodcut headbands and tail-pieces. Parts 2 and 3 with separate title-pages, that to Part 3 with the imprint, 'printed for B. Motte' and dated 1732. Binding extremities lightly rubbed, light abrasion at top of front cover. Marginal tear in frontisportrait, a little light foxing. Armorial bookplate of American linguist and diplomat John Dyneley Prince (1868-1945). A very attractive copy in morocco tipped cloth open-end slipcase. Full twentieth-century brown morocco. Gilt double-ruled covers and spine, gilt lettered spine with floral vignettes in compartments. Gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. Twelvemo. 400, [24] pp. Item #16068
