Plumtre's book is partially a treatise on diet, with many paragraphs called "Observations" following the recipes. The observations provide healthful hints and advise, particularly about the feeding of children. Engraved frontispiece. Tear in title-page cutting into text, neatly repaired. Some offsetting to title-page from frontispiece, intermittent light foxing. A good, clean copy. Contemporary calf over marbled boards, rebacked with old spine laid down. Annabella Plumtre or Plumptre (1769-1838) was the daughter of Robert Plumptre (1723–1788),an English churchman and academic and President of Queens' College, Cambridge from 1760. Her sister was the writer and translator, Anne Plumptre (1760-1818), and her brother was the playwright James Plumptre (1771-1821). Domestic Management first appeared in 1810.
Cagle notes the present edition. Axford, Bitting, Oxford and Vicaire all list the first edition. OCLC also lists an 1812 edition. All are known in only a few copies. Oxford and Bitting erroneously refer to the author as Arabella rather than Annabella Plumtre. Some catalogs list her as "Bell" Plumtre.
