Engraved frontisportrait in Part I; engraved title for Claustrum Regale…at the beginning of Part II, folding engraved map of Boscobel and elaborate engraved folding view of Boscobel, including the grounds, with a legend in the fore-ground. Title-page on a stub. Two small tears in frontisportrait plate, not affecting image, tear in back pastedown at gutter margin. A very good copy overall. Early twentieth century polished calf, rebacked with gilt-decorated spine laid down. Gilt triple-rule borders on covers, gilt inner dentelles. Top edge gilt. Fourth edition of this account of Charles II's celebrated escape from the Parliamentary soldiers after the Battle of Worcester, first published in the year of his Restoration, 1662. Together with Anne Wyndham's Claustrum Regale Reseratum, first published in 1667, which deals with the hiding of Charles II in Trent at the house of Sir Francis Wyndham, 1st Baronet (1612-1676). Anne Gerard Wyndham (b. 1626) was his wife.

This edition is fairly scarce. ESTC lists eight copies in North America.
