London: Printed for J. and R. Tonson, 1767. A handsome, early collected edition of the works of John Dryden (1631-1700), called by Samuel Johnson “the father of English criticism.”. Sixteen fine engraved head- and tail-pieces, including portraits of James II, Cromwell, Charles II, the Earl of Shaftesbury, Chaucer, Boccaccio and Ovid. Minor stains to covers, a little offsetting to first and last few leaves from binding. A very good, set. Contemporary smooth tan calf, gilt spines with burgundy and green morocco labels.
