Newcastle-on-Tyne: Mawson, Swan & Morgan, 1887. First edition. Over eighty delightful woodcuts of various sizes by Joseph Crawhall; subjects include men, animals, angels, skeletons, a pipe, an hourglass, a bunch of grapes, a feather, etc. Some of the cuts are hand-colored. Quarter vellum over tan printed boards, gilt spine. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “Phyllis Crawhall Challoner with her Grandmother’s love. September 18th /03.” .” Spine darkened, tears and chips at head and foot of spine. Pages browned around the edges due to the acidic paper used. A few marginal stains. Several corners torn because of the brittle paper. Still, quite a respectable copy of a very fragile book. Quarter vellum over tan printed boards, gilt spine. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “Phyllis Crawhall Challoner with her Grandmother’s love. September 18th /03.”. Quarto. 9 7/8x 8 1/4.”. 77 pp. Item #13455

A note at the back says, “50 copies on Large Paper, hand coloured, for which early application is requested. This appears to be a regular paper copy, in which a few cuts have been specially hand-colored.
