This copy has several ownership markings on the front endpapers, including: the ink signature and embossed stamp of Captain Philip Reade, who served in the 3rd Regiment of Infantry of the United States Army in the last half of the nineteenth-century. and a mounted portrait of Captain Reade; ink signature of S.L.H. Slocum, Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army in the 1890s; armorial bookplate of Albert Rowe Merrill, whom we cannot identify. A good copy, tight and clean, with an interesting provenance.
