Letter from Sussex by H.D.C. Pepler about his Friend, Eric G[ill].

Chicago: Cherryburn Press, 1950. Small tear near top of spine. Else fine in pictorial dustjacket. First edition. Stiff paper wraps. Small octavo. 10 pp. Item #11604

Pepler helped to organize an exhibition of Gill’s works at the Newberry Library in February, 1949. This letter was intended to be read at the exhibition, but was dropped from the program. “Because of the historical significance of Mr. Pepler’s letter, which reveals many unknown incidents, including some which concern the beginnings of Gill’s interest in wood engraving, it was decided to publish the letter as an STA keepsake” (foreword).
